The Great British High Street Competition 2016 is now open. The Competition searches England, Scotland and Wales for examples of great high streets, where local people and businesses are working together to put their high street at the heart of the community. We are looking for high streets of all shapes and sizes, from city centres full of national chains to smaller centres with a greater presence from independents. See the flyer HERE
The 2015 Competition was a huge success. With over 230 amazing high streets enter and nearly 200,000 votes for our 21 finalists. The finalists told us that being part of the Competition helped promote their high streets and massively boosted local pride. This year, the Competition is back and it is bigger and better. Once again we will be looking for the nation’s best high streets and asking the public to help us by voting for their winners. We have expanded the Market Town Category (our most popular) to large and small and also introduced new categories such as the Rising Star Award which is looking for high streets that are taking their first steps turning around their fortunes. We are also recognising people as well as places through our new High Street “hero” categories – examples of local business owners, store managers, people involved in markets and young people that are working hard for their towns and high streets. The winners will also share a cash prize and win a range of other support such as digital training from Google. More information about the competition, including how to apply and guidance can be found HERE
The Great British High Street Competition is a Government and business-led initiative which celebrates our nation’s much-loved high streets. Now in its third year, it showcases the people, businesses and partnerships that are putting their high street at the heart of their communities.
The 2015 Competition was a huge success. Over 230 high streets took part and the campaign to find the winners made a huge dent in the public consciousness, with over 200,000 votes cast for the finalists. This year, the Competition is back and it is bigger and better, with new categories and new awards for individuals, our ‘High Street Heroes’, who have made a special effort to support their high street.
Anybody can put forward a nomination for their high street or high street hero. Once nominations are received, finalists will be selected from each category and local people will be asked to vote for their winners. An expert judge will also visit each high street to help decide the winners, who will share a cash prize and also receive training from Google. High Street Heroes will also win prizes.
