New year, new venue, new charity

WiRE Burton is delighted to be starting 2019 with a new, permanent home!

The group, which will celebrate its eighth birthday in 2019, will hold its ten networking meetings this year at Branston Golf and Country Club. This popular venue has free car parking and is close to the A38 making it convenient and easy to access for members and visitors from Lichfield and Derby as well as the group’s hometown of Burton-on-Trent.

Prices are frozen again for 2019 and remain only £8 for visitors and £5 for members. A hot drink is included in the price and extra drinks can be bought from the bar. Payment is only taken on the door on the night, but women who work or volunteer are urged to ‘book a place’ by clicking on the button within any upcoming event listed on the WiRE Burton website page so that volunteer leaders Alison Bradley, Elaine Pritchard and Lorraine Holden can make sure the room is laid out with enough chairs and refreshments.

The first meeting of 2019, on Wednesday, January 9, saw guest speaker Sally McMahon introduce the WiRE Burton new charity for the year, the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity. A member of the Branston team also spoke about the new venue and one of the WiRE Burton leaders, Elaine Pritchard, gave a short presentation on how both members and non-members can raise their profile in 2019.

In August and December 2019 the group will hold social evenings that raise money for its charity of the year. On the other ten months of the year, the group will meet at Branston Golf & Country Club on the second Wednesday of the month from 7pm to 9pm. The format usually includes a guest speaker and a WiRE member who gives a ten-minute presentation. Everyone who attends can introduce themselves briefly to the room and bring along cards and promotional literature to share.
