The New Forest is one of the most beautiful areas in Europe.
For over a thousand years this unique area of natural heathland has developed and flourished thanks to the commoners whose rights of pasture allow them to graze their ponies, cattle, donkeys and pigs. In 1909 the New Forest Commoners’ Defence Association was founded to defend these rights. Without this organisation we would not have the New Forest we know today. This book is a celebration of the NFCDA’s Centenary 1909-2009.
Sally Fear’s new collection of glorious Forest photographs, together with a few favourites and some historical images, make this book a true tribute to the ongoing skill, hard work and passion of the New Forest commoners; for it is their animals who are the true architects of the New Forest.
