Welcome to Hill Farm Bed and Breakfast for the perfect, relaxing stay in the Derbyshire Dales. Our farmhouse is in the tiny hamlet of Somersal Herbert between the market towns of Ashbourne and Uttoxeter. After undertaking a careful restoration of this two hundred year old listed property (for which read massive, challenging and exciting project) we are now ready to share our lovely home with visitors.
Opened in 2016, the B&B has two guest rooms with glorious rural views and you’ll also find freshly arranged flowers and tempting home-made biscuits waiting for you. One room is en-suite and the other has a huge private bathroom with a roll top bath. Hill Farm is surrounded by 9 acres of hay meadow and a wildlife friendly garden. We have amazing sunrises and sunsets here and are lucky enough to have regular visits from brown hares, red-legged partridge and a wide variety of other birds and butterflies. Artists and photographers will find plenty here to inspire them, there's walking and cycling or you can just come to relax. In the summer sit outside and watch the sun set and the stars emerge, in the winter snuggle up with a good book in front of the log burner.
I love both cooking and gardening and guests get to enjoy the results of my labours! For breakfast there is freshly picked fruit (in season) and yoghurt, my own bread and preserves and a delicious ‘Full Derbyshire’ complete with local oatcakes, I can also provide candle lit evening meals and afternoon cream teas - oven warm scones with homemade jam and clotted cream ….
We pride ourselves on giving the warmest of welcomes with comfortable king size beds, glorious rural views and delicious home cooked food; it seems our guests agree:
'Everything was perfect. Beautiful house, rooms, bathroom (wow!) Gorgeous views and amazing breakfast. Can’t wait to enjoy your amazing marmalade at home. We felt very relaxed and welcome.'
'Brilliant, perfect. A lovely welcome. Wonderful views. Comfortable accommodation. Superb food. So good we had supper on both days.'
'Thank you so much for the most wonderful, relaxing stay in your beautiful home.'
'Best B&B I’ve ever stayed in.'

I have really enjoyed the challenge of setting up this new business (which is a complete change to my previous working life) and it has given me the opportunity to learn new skills and improve existing ones (ironing lessons anyone?!) I am excited to be part of WIRE and look forward to meeting and networking, especially with other local members.
