‘Wonder Women of Warwickshire’ Charity Calendar
The ‘Wonder Women of Warwickshire’ is the concept of WIRE member, Exhall based Image Consultant and positive body image ambassador Angie Saffrey from ‘The Image Angel’.
Angie wanted to find a way to publicly promote positive body image, and challenge women to accept their bodies.
She enlisted Rugby Photographer Blanche Gal from ‘It’s About You Photo’ and Helena Lapworth of ‘Retro Rosie Lingerie’ to assist.
The trio created and sold a calendar featuring local business ladies in Retro Rosie lingerie to raise money for two local charities – ‘Coventry Haven’ who provide support for ladies experiencing domestic violence and ‘This is Me Cov’ who provide friendship groups and skills workshops for children who have experienced bullying, mental health issues, grooming or abuse.
The team spread the word and were delighted to feature 26 local business ladies. Photoshoots took place between July and September with retro hair and make up by ‘Chez Titine Salon’ to match the lingerie.
The final product is sponsored by local high profile organisations including ‘The Little Soap Company’ and ‘Woman Who’.
The reasons that the ladies gave for taking part were varied from helping them overcome mental and physical health issues to ending negative thoughts about their bodies.
One ‘Wonder Woman’ even went on to star in the current Sainsbury’s lingerie campaign #allboobswelcome as a result of her confidence boost.
The first calendar copy was handed to Celebrity Stylist Gok Wan at his ‘One Size Fits All’ event in Birmingham, and he said ‘This is going on my office wall’.
To date the project has raised £600 approximately for the Charities, and won a ‘Highly Commended’ Award for ‘Product of the Year’ at a National Business Recognition Awards – ‘The Family Network Awards’ on 23rd March at Hilton, Docklands Hotel in London.
