Collaboration at its best!

Claire McFadden from Full Square printers has launched a new range of Julie Dodsworth window blinds with the help of no less than four local WiRE members! Copywriter Lucy Banwell has written the press material, photographer Ruth Taylor created the publicity images, home stylist Denise Cable styled the shoot, and the location was provided by Mandy Anderson, the founder of picnic blanket company Ralph and Rose.

Claire, who is a network leader for the Leicestershire and Rutland WIRE region, first met artisan designer and WiRE Ambassador, Julie Dodsworth, when she was speaking at the 2017 WiRE conference in Shropshire. ‘Julie’s presentation was all about how we tend to hide behind emails and technology these days rather than picking up the phone,’ says Claire. ‘So I took her at her word and called her up to propose a collaboration and she said yes!’

Yorkshire-based artist and narrowboat owner Julie creates floral designs inspired by the heritage of the British waterways which have been featured on ceramics and textiles sold in more than 20 countries. She has collaborated with prestigious British brands such as Barbour, Churchill China and Briers. Claire McFadden is delighted to have become the latest partner to work with Julie Dodsworth, manufacturing made-to-measure blinds featuring her beautiful designs.

‘Julie and I share a passion for colour and it was a real thrill when she agreed to let me use her designs,’ says Claire, who runs Full Square, a bespoke printers in Leicester. ‘We have a had a great time translating her artwork onto a larger canvas and we have also been working with an expert in colour-matching technology to create blinds which co-ordinate with the customers’ existing décor. It’s a very exciting project and I really couldn’t have done it without the help and support of the ladies I have met through WiRE.’

Each Full Square window blind is handmade to order in the UK and is available in two different weights – practical blackout or a pretty shade fabric which allows some light to pass through. The range also includes wall decals and matching lampshades. There is a even a colouring book to accompany the Julie Dodsworth blinds which features her designs in outline for you to colour in as you wish.

With every Julie Dodsworth blind order placed during 2018, WiRE members will receive a free copy of the Colour-Me art pad.
