It’s never too late to start an adventure

WiRE member, Tina Bettison (just over 50) and her 89 year old mum, Christine, have started a new adventure together, opening a gallery and shop in Southwell, Nottinghamshire. Tina’s dad was also involved in the initial idea before he passed away at the grand age of 90 in August 2017.

beloved@thebarn had a ‘soft’ opening in December and is planning a proper launch on 17 February 2018. beloved provides an exhibition space for local and lesser known artists and creators to show their work and gain confidence and experience in staging exhibitions.  The space is also ideal for small group workshops and gatherings. A workshop programme is in development and artists/makers or coaches/trainers are welcome to hire the space for running their own events.

beloved@thebarn also sells hand crafted goods and beloved homewares (china, glassware, vintage and antique bits and bobs). ‘The idea of selling beloved homewares was actually Dad’s input’, says Tina. ‘He was worried about what would happen to all the lovely things he and Mum had collected over their 70 years together and he didn’t want them to just end up at house clearance or, worse, in a skip! So we decided to sell them through beloved.’ Tina and her mum will take beloved items for sale on a commission basis if you also have lovely things that need a new home.

Tina is also developing a workshop programme using the artist’s creative process as an alternative approach to business planning, goal setting and problem solving. She is available to give talks/mini workshops to WiRE groups.
