FLORABUNDANCE: The secret life of a seascape artist
Garden drawings by artist Jo Ashby
See the hidden sketchbooks of the London and Ireland gardens of Jo Ashby. Known for her evocative seascape paintings of Sherkin Island, Jo shares her private floral and plant sketches which have never been exhibited before.
Jo Ashby has an enduring preoccupation with quietly drawing the smallest corners of her landscape – the flora in her cultivated gardens and the wild nature of her Irish island. For artists, drawing becomes the research behind subject and mark-making, “far more revealing than the effects of paint and brush.”
Ashby’s drawings have an intimacy, revealing a love of balance between nature’s design and chaos.
The artist will be at the gallery on Saturday 19th November all day for meet, greet, art and nibbles – and then you can re-visit the artwork up through the weekend before Christmas.
Opening day: Saturday 19th November
Exhibition continues 24th November – 17th December
Open Thurs–Sat 12pm – 4pm
