Karen Thorne who owns and run luxury bed and breakfast Hopton House, near Craven Arms and Anna Wilde who is the MD of Ludlow-based tech company PerfectArc met through a local business network when Karen moved to Shropshire in 2004. Both long-term members of WiRE, their new collaboration involves …knitting.
They’ve started running knitting day courses at Hopton House, with Karen producing the wonderful cakes and lunches (locally sourced produce, cooked freshly) and Anna teaching the knitting courses.
Anna’s been a keen knitter since she was 9 and has tackled most of the challenges that knitting offers but she says there’s always more to learn. “Knitting has been through a huge revolution in the last few years and become trendy” she says “People no longer snigger when I say it’s my main hobby”.
Meanwhile Karen has also become a knitting fan and that’s how WildThorn Knitting Workshops got started. So far the courses have been learn to knit for beginners, followed by learning to knit a triangular shawl and then learning colourwork and knitting in the round.
All workshops take place at Hopton House, where there is unlimited cake, hot drinks and a lovely lunch as well as beautiful views. Karen says “When it’s cold outside, there’s nothing nicer than to sit and knit so if you need a bit of help to get your knitting to the next level, why not come and join us?
WildThorn have a sock workshop planned for 18th February and if any WiRE members would like to purchase a gift voucher for a Christmas present , please contact us on 01547 830885. All workshops cost £85 for the day which is fully inclusive of everything you’ll need to complete your project – you’ll just need the armpower! wildthornknitting.co.uk
