A Royal Appointment

Posted: 8th September 2015

GBF1On Tuesday 28th July, to celebrate the opening of the new Gloucester Services Southbound station, The Great British Florist were asked to attend the opening ceremony where we were lucky enough to be chosen to meet HRH Prince Charles, and show him the British Flowers that we supply to Gloucester Services.

We have supplied the existing Gloucester Northbound services with flowers for 18 months, making three deliveries of fresh British flowers per week, straight from our farm floristry to the M5. They stock a range of British Flowers from Cut Stems and Dried Flowers to larger Posies and Jugs, and have been delighted with the flower sales made and the ethics behind them.

First open in 2014, Gloucester Services is dedicated to local food, farming and the surrounding community, the services has two main aims – to make local food not just the preserve of elite shops and farmers markets, but accessible and affordable to everyone on the move, and to inject vital investment back into the surrounding community. They source local food from over 130 local suppliers within 30 miles of the services and 70 producers from across the South West. The motorway services are home to their own bee-hives, and HRH was presented with the first jar of M5 honey to celebrate the occasion. The services are members of The Westmoreland Family who run similar services in Tebay, Cumbria.

The Great British Florist is part of our small company Wiggly Wigglers based on Lower Blakemere Farm on The Duchy Estate in Blakemere Herefordshire.. At the moment only 10% of the flowers sold in the UK are actually grown here – but we have found a growing interest in people wanting proper real seasonal flowers that vary from bouquet to bouquet. It makes a real change from the usual imported mass produced alternative. We have married these old fashioned traditional blooms with the latest online marketing and this year will supply over 220 weddings throughout the UK with ALL British Flowers.
