What are Twitter Hours and how can they help your business?

Posted: 5th July 2016

Are you so busy in your day-to-day work life that networking events are impossible to get to? Twitter hours can help you reach new people from the comfort of your desk and at time convenient for you.

Twitter hour is generally held during the working day, normally Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.  The aim is to share useful content, introduce yourself and your business and help to promote other members.

What do you need to do?

You firstly need to set up a “search” in your preferred twitter monitoring account – I prefer Hootesuite for this. Just go to your dashboard, click on “add stream” and go to the “Search tab”. Select the Twitter profile you want to use and then add the name of the Twitter hour you want to follow.  It’s as simple as that!

Start to follow people or businesses who regularly participate in Twitter hour, retweet (RT) the tweets with the corresponding hashtag (#)  Twitter hours can help you build your followers on Twitter, connect with other local businesses and make new business contacts.  You then know that many of those businesses you have been chatting to and sharing content with during the week will be on Twitter during the designated hour.

Don’t just use Twitter Hour as your sole method of promoting your business but it can be a great way of meeting other businesses in your region and sharing useful content.

Note of caution – everything you retweet will appear in the timeline of your followers, so ensure that your tweets are consistent with what they would expect to see from you or your business.
