Traditional five element acupuncture is a healthcare system based on ancient principles which go back over two thousand years. It has a very positive model of good health and function, and looks at pain and illness as signs that the body, mind and spirit are out of balance. Traditional five element acupuncture works to maintain the body’s equilibrium by focusing on all aspects of well-being making this system so uniquely suited to modern life.
Traditional five element acupuncturists are trained to use subtle diagnostic techniques that have been developed and refined over centuries. Each person is unique; two people with the same western diagnosis will receive different traditional five element acupuncture treatments. The aim the treatment is to work with the person holistically looking at the entire person including such areas as lifestyle, diet, medical history, personal stressors, exercise and attitude to life, for each individual to discover a greater sense of self. Good health is not just the absence of pain or disease but overall health and wellbeing.
With traditional five element acupuncture the underlying principle of treatment is that illness and pain occur when the body’s Qi, (vital energy) cannot flow freely. The Qi flows around the body, mind and spirit in a system of meridians (channels) like rivers and seas. By inserting ultra-fine sterile needles into specific acupuncture points, and at times burning a herb moxa on a needle or skin. Treatment seeks to re-establish the free flow of Qi to restore balance to activate the body’s natural healing response.
