Growing your business?

Posted: 4th August 2014

The time will come for many Wire members when business success means that someone else is needed to share the workload.  When that moment arrives – and you have to start the process of getting some help on board – here are a few thoughts and tips to help you with your recruitment tasks:

  • Draft a description of the job you want performed and a list of all the personal qualities and skills required.
  • Use an application form rather than relying solely on CVs.
  • Use interview forms, so that each candidate is asked the same questions.
  • Take thorough interview notes and keep them.
  • Obtain written references.
  • Ask to see exam and other certificates – be aware that grades can be ‘improved’ and experience exaggerated.
  • Advertise effectively using a wide variety of sources – not just the internet.
