When WiRE first began it was as part of a PHD research project into farm diversification and, particularly, the involvement of the women in creating new revenue streams for their families. In the late 90s the first WiRE conference was held at HQ – Harper Adams University and over 300 women answered the invite to come and discuss their need for help and support – Women in Rural Enterprise was born and now it welcomes women in business from all backgrounds and locations.
Bawdon Lodge Farm is a National Forest site and working arable farm nestled away in the heart of the Charnwood Forest within Leicestershire. The Bailey family have been farming for over 90 years. The present generation are Richard & Lynn Bailey.

Lynn has worked in the hospitality and training industries for over 30 years and joined the family farming business in 2010.

In 2012 Lynn launched Bawdon Lodge Events Ltd and, along with Richard, has developed an award winning weddings and events business along with a successful retail business selling Burleigh’s Gin which is distilled on the farm.

Lynn will tell us her story and give us a tour of Bawdon Lodge Farm which will include the opportunity to taste and buy the range of Burleigh’s gin and Vintage Cordials too!
