WiRE - Women in Rural Enterprise

Wire Members Directory

Your WiRE Rural Marketplace entry can be a powerful tool to generate enquiries for your business and additional traffic for your website. Make the most of your listing by following the guidelines below:

Making your entry search engine friendly

1. Think about what your visitors are likely to be searching for. This may not be the terminology that you usually use. For example, 'Warehousing and logistics' might be 'storage and delivery' to your customers. There are a number of keyword analysis tools on the web that you can use to find out what phrases people are searching for. Try:

2. Summarise what your business is / does in 8 words or less, including one or more of the phrases you chose in step 1 above. Enter this summary in the 'Page Title' box when entering your details. This will appear in the blue bar across the top of your web browser, and as a page title at the top of your directory listing.

3. Use each of your chosen phrases a couple of times in the description of your business that you use in the directory entry.

4. Mention the location where you are based a couple of times - eg "Telford, Shropshire".

5. Make sure that you include your web address, if you have one.

Style tips

1. Remember your profile is for visitors as well as for search engines. Keep sentences short and simple, and space them out in order to make it easy to read. Use plain English, not jargon.

2. Don't use all capitals - this will come across as if you were shouting.

3. Don't include any time-sensitive information such as 'I'm going to be at the selling workshop next week' - are you going to remember to update your profile every week with details of your whereabouts?

4. Try not to make the profile too personal and avoid saying "I did this" / "I offer this" too often. Write about your business as if from the outside.
