Green Achiever Scheme

Green Achiever From feedback we know that keeping up with regulations and the changing obligations they place on businesses is one of the issues that many of you face, particularly when those regulations apply to areas outside of your business Sector.  One of these areas is around environmental issues; things such as waste management, use and storage of raw materials, obligations around use of packaging, etc. 

As well as keeping within the law there are other commercial advantages to be had by understanding and operating in an environmentally aware way – for example, most contract specifications these days will include a question around this area, asking for your policy or evidence of your environmental accreditation.

For this reason we would like to introduce you to the Green Achiever Scheme – an environmental award scheme targeted primarily at the SME sector.  It is designed in a way that enables businesses to learn easily about the environmental regulatory framework that specifically affects them, implement changes to reduce their environmental impacts (and often their operating costs also) and enhance the way they are perceived by suppliers, customers and stakeholders.  I have attached an information sheet about the Scheme but in summary it works as follows:-

There are 4 levels of membership (Registration through to Gold) and after initial registration members can choose the level that is appropriate to them.  As a basic all members will receive:-

  • Information and support - 2 newsletters are produced per month, a technical one about regulations and updates on changes and a good practice one with more items about how companies can reduce their environmental impact, success stories of our members, etc. 
  •  Marketing and promotional support - all members receive access to the Green Achiever logo for use on their website and other marketing materials to promote to stakeholders, customers, etc that they are doing something about their environmental position.  Further, all members are added to the Business Directory so customers and importantly, potential customers can find companies who are aware of and acting on their environmental responsibilities.
Crucially the Scheme focuses on:

providing advice to ensure businesses are aware of and enabled to meet their regulatory obligations

  • looking at what companies do in practice and in how they operate to reduce their environmental impact
  • identifying and celebrating good practice
  • providing advice and support on actions that could improve a members’ environmental performance
  • promoting members’ environmental credentials to investors, customer (current and potential) and other stakeholders.

If you decide to register (and we commend the Scheme to you for the potential advice you can receive) it would be helpful to WiRE if you could note on the form that you heard about the Scheme through us.  That way we can monitor the number of our members who are joining.
