WiRE and its networks helping Oxfam raise money for International Women's Day 8th March 2011
During the week of 8 March 2011, WiRE and its networks joined Oxfam to celebrate women's achievements for International Women's Day by running a series of fundraising events around the country.
The fundraising from the 'Oxfam dos' will directly support Oxfam's work with women: Oxfam tackles the issues affecting women in poverty in a vast number of ways. Oxfam considers womens rights and womens equality in every aspect of our work. Read more here

Update on WiRE Network Do's around the UK
Jen Tiller and the Hitchin Network Group had a really succesful day celebrating International Women's Day on the 15th of February. Read to oxfam blog about the event here. The meeting brought together over 20 women to support the Oxfam women's projects. With several stalls, live music, great food from Saharaz, and a number of new faces, this was another fun and worthwhile event in our WiRE year. There was an excellent sense of synergy between many of the women present - hopefully this will bring further opportunities for joint ventures and mutual support, which s what WiRE is all about!
Nottinghamshire WiRE Network
Thank you to everyone involved -we had an excellent evening and raised £111.75 on the night for Oxfam's A bit of a Do. The evening got off to a great start with an introduction to Belly Dancing led by Karen from Divine Therapies (www.divinetheraies.co,uk) with everyone joining in including our male guest, Steve from Ingeus - a brave man indeed! Here is a link to a short video WiRE Nottinghamshire and guests celebrating International Women's Day 2011
The auction followed with a fabulous assortment of gifts and talents to choose. Bids were placed secretly into envelopes and those with the top bids walked away with the prizes. We even had a bidding war for the blue eggs.
The Newport Network Group and the WiRE office supported Oxfam at their meeting on the 23rd February. As well as the usual meeting and lunch, there were member stands selling, beauty treatments, skincare products, ceramics & art and a family history service. More details here.
