More business training opportunities in Scarborough with WiRE - 08/09/11
A new branch
has been set up in Scarborough of an innovative support organisation which
helps entrepreneurial women to get their businesses off the ground.
With
countless women chasing fewer and fewer jobs in the region, the new division of
Women in Rural Enterprise (WiRE) will be a welcome support for women who want
to turn their dreams into reality and set up their own enterprises.
Organiser
Katrina Shamel is setting up a launch event to introduce the Scarborough and
District WiRE network. She said: “Our first event is at the Downe Arms, Wykeham, Scarborough on Wednesday,
September 14 from 10am until 11.30am. It will be followed by meetings on the
second Wednesday of each month. The events will cost £5 per person, to include
tea or coffee.
“The
meetings are open to any woman running or thinking of starting a business in
Scarborough and the surrounding area,” she said. Katrina
added that she hoped the launch event would pave the way for a special
three-day ‘Opening Doors’ business start-up course at the Downe Arms, starting
on October 11.
The
intensive course aims to give women the confidence to get started with their
own business by offering a comprehensive training package on starting and
growing a successful enterprise.
It will
cover all aspects of running a small business, including marketing, sales,
internet and finance. It will also deal with the pitfalls of running a small
business and offer advice on how to avoid them.
Small
business owner Sophie Bignall, who took part in one of the WiRE business
start-up courses earlier this year, said: “The help and advice I received on
the course was absolutely invaluable. Everyone was so friendly. It really gave
me the confidence to take my business to the next level. Since then, I haven’t
looked back. It was the best money I have ever spent!”
WiRE
business adviser Sarah Roberts said: “The three classroom sessions offer
business training and the opportunity to network with like-minded rural
business owners.
“Also, you
will have access to the online Learning Resources Centre which allows you to
continue to network, share skills and experiences and pick up useful hints and
information in the future.
“The course
will help you to use all your skills and knowledge to produce a professional
business plan which will provide a strong foundation for your business.
“The business plan will be assessed as part of the academic requirements. It is pass or fail only, but you will receive so much support that we promise you will not fail!”
The course,
which costs £99, runs from 9.30am to 3.30pm at the Downe Arms Hotel. For more
