I am an artist/designer/maker of contemporary, kiln-formed glass art 2D and 3D, commissions, home decor accessories, awards and a limited range of jewellery inspired by ‘tapestry glass’. All of my work is unique, some is bespoke.
My studio workshop, and ‘gallery-in-the-shed’, is on the edge of the Shropshire Hills AONB and close to the Welsh border and you are most welcome to visit, however please check before you travel to ensure I am there to show you around.
I run glass fusing experiences for intimate groups of 2-4 persons. From half day ‘Tasters’ through to bespoke week long workshops (max 2); I supply all the materials, tools & equipment, kiln time included so you just bring yourself! Relax and unleash a little creativity, it’s a great stress buster.
All details are on the website. Dates online are limited however, if you have a small group (2 – 4) call me and I’ll make time to suit you.
About kiln-formed glass:
“Warm glass or kiln-formed glass is the working of glass, usually for artistic purposes, by heating it in a kiln. The processes used depend on the temperature reached and range from fusing and slumping to casting”.
Fusing as a general process, is some 4000 years old (no, I haven’t been doing it that long) with techniques lost and rediscovered over the millenia; the Romans were particularly prolific.
Why do we love glass? Glass has the almost unique ability to reflect, refract and transmit light, it plays with colour like nothing else and seems to have its own internal fire in-spite of being cold and hard to the touch – it is a dichotomy. Can you resist touching it? Can you pick up a piece of glass without holding it up to the light?
Colour is my influence and main driver and my glass is almost always full of it! Everyone needs a little colour in their life. Though occasionally I will explore monochromatic schemes.
And I also show at some of the major events in the region such as:
Malvern Spring and Autumn Shows, Three Counties Show, Shropshire Guild’s Showing Off (Ludlow), Gorgeous Christmas (Coalbrookdale).
Occasionally I hold ‘Open Studio’ events and Fusing Ideas website will have details and/or you can sign up to my newsletter to keep up to date with all my news, events and workshops.
I am a member of The Contemporary Class Society, Shropshire Guild of Contemporary Craft, Worcestershire Guild of Designer Craftsmen and Design Gap.
I’m also a partner/director in the family engineering design and manufacturing companies, a member of the FSB and I love collies & elephants (got one, not the other).
And finally; I’m a serial networker and I hope to meet you at a WiRE event sometime soon.
All the best
