Liberty fabric in the Derbyshire Dales

Bettys Sewing Box opened its doors in April 2014,  as a shop selling recycled fabric, haberdashery and hand made & homemade items. Delibratly  avoiding  mainstream imported gifts, we support small local businesses that don’t have a shop of their own , this gives a quirky, unusual style & feel. Bags, cards, cushions, knitted & crocheted items plus a range of children’s clothing under the Busy Little Things label are all on offer.

A lovely workshop space means we can provide a wide range of classes that have developed & evolved over the past 3 years. Cushions, applique, embroidery, crochet, dress making to name a few. Using both in house and visiting textile artists & teachers we continue to develop our program, with weekly, monthly & stand alone  workshops now proving very popular. A lively after school club runs in term time , where 10 children ( aged 8 to 12 years ) attend every week and learn both hand & machine sewing skills, it also has  a long waiting list !

Our vintage tearoom provides welcome refreshments in the shape of teas, coffee & delicious homemade food. We also provide craft bags in the tearoom, where customers can try tapestry, embriodery, patchwork or knitting whilst relaxing! The ultimate in knit & natter !

The combination of workshops & tearoom provides a perfect platform for parties which have proved very popular, hen parties, birthdays, baby showers & anniversaries have all been celebrated at Betty’s Sewing Box. Creating bunting, cushions, wedding presents, baby blankets etc.

The stock changes on a weekly basis as we gather goodies from house clearances, car boot sales, auctions and charity shops. We concentrate on recycling &  reusing,  however our small range of new fabric took on a whole new look early in 2017 when we became the only stockist of Liberty of London fabric in Derbyshire!

Tana Lawn is a world famous beautiful fabric and to be able to sell it in our little corner of Derbyshire is very special. It has added a touch of luxury to the shop & workshop and has been received very well, attracting customers from far and wide , meaning  as we go to press we are just embarking on the difficult but happy  decision of which designs to order this time !
