About the Company / Business

‘Cutting the Curd’ Cheese Making Classes

Perhaps you remember Granny lovingly making cheese or have a genuine interest in what you and your family eat.

Louise Talbot of the Tarrant Valley in Dorset is revisiting the forgotten art of making cheese with her cheese making classes ‘Cutting the Curd’, which will teach the skills and knowledge required to confidently make a wide range of delicious, preservative free, soft cheeses for your home.

As a member of the Specialist Cheesemakers Association and Co-Leader of the Dorset WiRE (Women in Rural Enterprise) Network, Louise is passionate about good food and a rural lifestyle.

She appreciates the simple pleasures of growing ones’ own vegetables, home baking, keeping hens (and in some cases pigs!) and sees cheese making as a lost art form …… and is a little concerned also about global food production and food security in the future.

Classes will take place in village halls with a minimum of 10 persons or perhaps you’d like to get a group together and Louise will happily come to you!  You’ll see in ‘the diary’ on her website where the next classes are to be held.

The early history and science of cheese making will be explored with techniques taught to produce a selection of cheeses including mozzarella, halloumi, salad cheese (feta), mascarpone and a cream cheese. There will also be an opportunity to purchase starter kits enabling you to commence making your own cheese the very next day!
