Holiday Inn Express Burton-on-Trent, 2nd Avenue Parkway, Centrum 100 Estate, Burton Upon Trent DE14 2WF.

Cost: £8.00 (£5.00 for members) - Pay network leader directly

In April we welcome Kate Dempsey from Staffordshire Police as our guest speaker.

Kate will talk about cyber crime and fraud awareness, and look at how criminality is changing and why. She will explain who may be a victim, and how to reduce the risk of becoming a victim yourself.

She will cover the tactics used by fraudsters, and how to protect yourself and your business with some basic steps.

Kate is a ‘Crime Prevention Design Advisor’ (Crime Prevention Officer), working in the Crime Prevention Unit at Staffordshire Police Headquarters.  She has worked for the force for 16 years.  Prior to hercurrent role she was a front line Scenes of Crime Officer.

She currently has the portfolio for Cyber, Fraud and Business crime within the force, and her work is directly involved around the ‘PROTECT’ element of the policing cyber strategy.

We’ll be meeting in the large foyer at the hotel. You are welcome to arrive from 6.45pm to sign in and pay your meeting fee. You will be able to get a hot drink and network informally until we move through to the meeting room. You will be able to bring flyers and business cards to pop on a table in the meeting room and everyone will get the chance to introduce themselves to the room. The WiRE member giving a 10-minute presentation to give more detail about what she does will be independent travel consultant Wendy Plant.

Any women who work (for themselves, for others, or for charities) are welcome to attend. There are no restrictions on the numbers and types of businesses who can attend and it doesn’t matter where you are based.

Admission will be £8 for non-members and £5 for WiRE members. Pay on the door but PLEASE help us prepare for the night by booking a place on this page.

Parking is free in the hotel car park but you will need to collect a code from reception on your way out to raise the car park exit barrier.

If you need to come straight from work you may be interested to know that light bites including paninis, jacket potatoes and pizza, are available to buy from the hotel all day and into the evening. So it’s the ideal spot to grab something to eat, or perhaps have a one-to-one meeting with a business contact ahead of the meeting.
