Combining Web Skills with DIY
Abi Bromirskyi explains why she opted for a Content Managed System when choosing a website
We really wanted a simple, easy to use and professional looking website to reflect the quality of our new business centre.
Our website was to be one of our main marketing tools for leasing offices and hiring the conference room. Therefore, it had to give as much information as possible about the centre including images, FAQ’s, news and events.
The task of finding the right website was quite daunting as there seemed to be so many different website designers and prices. I decided to look at examples of other websites to gain a better idea of what was available.
We opted for a Content Managed System (CMS) after seeing an example of such a website from a local commercial property agent.Although the initial costs were more than a standard website we really wanted to be able to regularly change the information ourselves, to keep it up to date and fresh. The CMS allowed us to do this.
We had an initial consultation with our website designers, where we discussed colours and content. The designers then created the skin of the website, set up the overall menu structure and added some of the basic content. Then they gave me an easy one-to-one training session on how to add the content so that I could manage and maintain the site myself.
Our website is so flexible and easy to up-date. I can add new modules, like a gallery for images, events, FAQs at any time. I have now added so much to our website, even in the few months it has been live. We’ve gone on to develop a separate Intranet for tenants of the centre, links to tenant websites, a news and events page and a virtual tour.
